Monica McCarthy’s unique approach to teaching and coaching actors draws upon her decades of professional experience on stage and screen in LA, NYC, Japan, and London (including Broadway, television, film, and commercials), as well as her extensive background in psychology, philosophy, and communications for global organizations. In addition, her experience behind the camera as an award-winning director and writer for stage and screen provide a unique lens for scene study and character development. As of January 2024, Monica resides in northwest Ireland which, yes, is a long story best told over a pint or three. 

Monica’s acting credits include: Wednesday (Netflix), FBI (CBS), Blue Bloods (NBC), Mildred Pierce (HBO), The Noel Diary (Netflix), as well as the Tony-nominated world premiere Broadway production of Time Stands Still (with Laura Linney and Alicia Silverstone).

ABOUT YOUR TEACHER

 Monica McCarthy has performed across the United States and in London, Scotland, and Japan. She made her Broadway debut understudying Laura Linney and Alicia Silverstone in the Tony nominated world premiere of Donald Margulies’ Time Stands Still under the direction of stage veteran,  Daniel Sullivan. Monica’s onscreen credits include television, film and commercials, where she’s worked with acclaimed directors including Todd Haines, Sam Mendes, Andrew McCarthy, and Charles Shyer,  on Netflix, NBC, CBS, and HBO. Monica graduated with honors with her B.A. in Theater from Pepperdine University and her M.A. in Creative Writing & Literature from Harvard University. Her training also includes the esteemed Larry Moss Studio (LA),  The Barrow Group (NYC), RADA (UK), Shakespeare & Company (MA), as well as extensive study of Stanislavsky and Chekhov.  Monica has been a guest teacher at NYU, Columbia University, Barnard University, and at Actors Connection, and she has taught hundreds of students privately for college admissions and for professional auditions. In 2022 Monica’s debut directorial short film (which she also wrote, acted in, and produced), Survival Job, won over a dozen awards at festivals across the United States and the UK.  As a writer her plays and screenplays have been workshopped at The Inge Festival New Writer Lab,  The Winter Playwrights Retreat, and the Chateau Orquevaux Artist-Writer residency in France. Her television pilot about Mary Shelley was one of only four scripts selected for the prestigious Athena Festival Screenwriter Lab in NYC and Monica was honored to be selected for the Hollywood Radio Film & Television Mentorship program. Monica is also an expert in emotional intelligence, creativity, and philosophy, and has delivered hundreds of keynotes and workshops to  companies worldwide (includinging: Google, Sony, AirBnB,  The Financial Times,  and Universal Music).  Her popular event series and podcast The Happier Hour: Philosophy To Help Life Suck Less was featured in The New York Times and Time Out New York
